Venterdon can be found in the parish of Stoke Climsland. The
Wesleyan chapel in Venterdon was erected in 1816 and the new chapel was built behind this in 1869,
the original Wesleyan chapel was subsequently converted into a Sunday school but has since been
torn down. The chapel still remains in use as a place of worship. This
area had several working mines that employed over a thousand men, but by
the end of the 19th century these mines went into decline and subsequently
closed completely, with the exception of the mine at Luckett which enjoyed
a short lived reprisal of fortune in 1947, but closed for good within five
and a years.
